Team Expectations

Team Expectations

Are you interested in joining my research team? Please read through to better understand the expectations for my team. All are welcome on our team regardless of race, religion, orientation, age, disability status, nationality, world-view, or economic background as long as you are kind, ready to work, and passionate about researching the educational opportunities associated with museums.
Team Philosophy
My research team will work together to improve museum education for learners of all ages and backgrounds. In addition to improving museum education, my priority is to mentor the next generation of museum professionals and researchers. My aim is to support your professional and academic goals in a manner that also provides support for your personal wellbeing. As part of my team, I expect kindness, collaboration, creativity, and a desire to achieve growth. I value drive, curiosity, and collegiality. While I have outlined concrete research agendas, I am open to diverse perspectives and the discussion of new studies that will further the development of my team members. I do expect consultation and consideration before beginning any new projects related to our work. My purpose is to help you build a foundation for your future career whether in academia, museums, or other fields.
Professional Expectations
Dr. Ennes:
  1. I am available 9-5. If you email me later than that, please expect a reply the next business day. I expect the same from you. If I happen to email you at 10pm, I do not expect a response until the next work day.
  2. I will treat each of my teammates with respect and collegiality in order to maintain an inclusive environment.
  3. I am willing to adjust your work schedule in response to academic and personal needs.
  4. If I make a mistake, I will acknowledge it and offer an apology to those affected.
Team Members:
  1. Team members are asked to adhere to a set weekly schedule (between 9-4; M-F) that we agree on together. You are expected to let me know if you need adjustments at any time.
  2. If you are sick or need a mental health day, please do not come in. Take the time you need to seek help and take care of yourself. Please communicate with me via email to let me know but the work will wait. You do not have to share any details with me.
    1. UF Student Health Care Center
    2. UF Counseling and Wellness Center
  3. All teammates will attend our weekly meetings at a time agreed upon by the team. You are expected to let me know if you cannot make it ahead of time unless there is an emergency.
  4. Each student will fill out a weekly report using Google Forms to keep me up to date on your progress.
  5. Collegiality is expected among all teammates. Any racist, sexist, ableist, ageist, or otherwise hurtful comments will not be tolerated and may lead to disciplinary actions. Students are expected to adhere to the Student Code of Conduct. If you have an incident you do not feel comfortable sharing with me, you can report that here.
  6. Team members will address conflict among members and inform me if there is a need for a mediated resolution.
  7. If you make a mistake, please acknowledge it and offer an apology to those affected.
  8. While I am happy for you to share about our work and research on social media, please post only respectful and appropriate content regarding our work. If you have questions about what is appropriate, please ask.
Academic Expectations
Dr. Ennes:
  1. I will help advise you on coursework and additional opportunities to support your academic progress.
  2. I will adjust your time commitment to our research based on your academic load. Please come talk to me if you need to reassess.
  3. I am happy to write you a letter of recommendation. You will use the google form to submit your request not later than 2 weeks prior to the due date. Please see the form for instructions and required materials.
Team Members:
  1. You are encouraged to come talk to me if you are struggling to balance academic work and our research.
  2. Plagiarized work will be grounds for dismissal from the team. See the university’s policy on plagiarism.
Research Expectations
Dr. Ennes:
  1. I will be responsible for driving the major research taking place in this team. However, I welcome suggestions for additional studies.
  2. We are a team and will collaborate on research projects. This includes “paying it forward” to help other students collect data and receiving the same support for your research projects.
  3. Manuscript writing is a collaborative process. We will use APA authorship guidelines and this will be an ongoing process through the life of the manuscript.
Team Members:
  1. Students will be expected to keep a digital research notebook. This will allow us to revisit your work for publications as well as to address any questions. The research notebook can be found in our Microsoft Teams page.
  2. Students will review UF policies on ethics and research misconduct.
  3. Much of our work involves human subjects. As such, all students will be required to complete all applicable IRB training in a timely manner.
  4. Students are not expected to work on the weekends except when required by the study itself for data collection. I want you to have a work life balance
  5. Authorship for manuscripts, conference presentations, and talks will be discussed before submission to identify all appropriate authors and authorship order.
Professional Development
Dr. Ennes:
  1. I will assist you with professional development opportunities based on goals you have shared with me. Please let me know as your goals change.
  2. I will assist you with identifying funding opportunities to attend conferences and other professional development opportunities.
  3. I will offer you opportunities to assist with grant writing and other stages of research in order to develop these skills.
Team Members:
  1. Students are expected to keep me up to date on career goals so that I can figure out how to best support your growth. Not everyone wants to go into academia and that is great.
  2. Students are expected to attend conferences as funding allows.
  3. Students should also identify potential professional development opportunities.
